An introduction by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama
His Holiness met with Jhampa in 2002 in Dharmsala, India. He agreed to write an intro for the book “Buddhist Astrology”.
“The ultimate purpose of Buddhism is to serve and benefit humanity; therefore, I believe that Buddhist ideas have a positive contribution to make to human society whether in the East or the West. On the one hand, this is because Buddhist thought gives a significant role to logic, which corresponds closely with a modern scientific outlook. On the other hand, the goal of Buddhist practice, inner peace, has a universal relevance. If we have inner peace, we can face difficulties with calm and reason, while our inner happiness is unaffected. The teachings of love, kindness, and tolerance, the conduct of nonviolence, and especially the Buddhist theory that all things are relative are a source of that inner peace. People who use astrology on a regular basis may derive beneficial inspiration from the Buddhist practices of mindfulness, compassion, and wisdom as they make their decisions. Indeed, I believe compassion and wisdom are not merely useful, but necessary in all aspects of our day-to-day life.”
